Description
This student-guided and creative “Graffiti” strategy consists of having the whole class divided into groups of 3-4 students each where they will work in collaboration with other peers. The teacher gives a general topic and subtopics to each group; every group is given 2-3 minutes to brainstorm, draw, and jot down as many ideas, thoughts and knowledge as they can on a large piece of paper. After this time, all groups rotate in a clockwise direction to the next group’s table and will read the other team notes. Based on those notes, the next team will build upon those reflections to find a more solid solution and/or understanding of topic.
Application
Graffiti is a very creative way that can be implemented in all subject matters and in K-12 grade levels. It facilitates the activation of prior knowledge, sharing of ideas, knowledge and the promotion of higher levels of thinking.
