Gallery Walk
This activity consist in dividing the class into small groups of 3-4 students.
* Give the whole class a general topic that touches controversial issues as a way to promote critical thinking where the possibility of having different opinions and reactions is expected. To express their knowledge, they can use drawings, graphs, or to make graphic organizers, like bubble or semantic maps to organize their ideas and express their knowledge on the topic of interest.
* Allow a reasonable amount of time to complete the task, you can use a timer or a clock to help them manage their time effectively and to help them focus on the task.
* After they completed the assignment, have them post their work on different parts of the classroom.
* Finally, instruct all groups to "visit" one poster at a time, and provide constructive feedback.
This strategy promotes collaboration habits and relieves the pressure for those reluctant students who refuse to participate in presentations. It helps them gain a better insight of the topic when sharing points of view and help them feel a sense of belonging where everyone's ideas and input are valuable and taken in consideration.
